The Dover-Foxcroft Historical Society operates a museum that is housed in the Observer Building, a structure that began as a tenement in 1854 and later housed the Piscataquis Observer weekly newspaper.
The society was given the building in 1995 for its headquarters and museum. A research library is under construction and the building houses artifacts, photos, memorabilia, and historic objects.
Dover-Foxcroft is the "shire town" of Piscataquis County.
